Five Regional Journalism Scholarships for College Freshmen

It’s scholarship application season! You know what that means, lots of paperwork, lots of work, and ultimately, lots of waiting. In addition to applying for FASFA, and national scholarships, check out these five regional scholarships available for high school seniors who plan on majoring in journalism. No matter where you are, you can find a scholarship in your region.

Name: Bob Fryer Memorial Scholarship For Outstanding Aspiring Journalists
Region/Eligility: Any Western Pennsylvania high school students planning on majoring in journalism may apply.
Amount/Award:  A $5,000 award is credited to the scholarship recipients school of choice.
Deadline: February 1st

Name: Golden LEAF Scholarship
Region/Eligility: North Carolina high school students can apply for one of the 215 Golden LEAF Scholarships awarded for the academic year. Scholarships go to students who plan on attending any North Carolina college or university.
Amount/Award:  $12,000 or $3,000 annually, for a maximum of for students
Deadline: March 1st

Name: Connecticut Society for Professional Journalists Foundation Bob Eddy Scholarship Program to Foster Journalism Careers
Region/Eligility: Residents of Connecticut, and those who plan on attending a four year college or university in Connecticut and studying journalism, are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Amount/Award:  Three students will receive scholarships for the amounts of: $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000, and two will receive $500 awards.
Deadline: April 7th

Name: F. Ward Just Scholarship
Region/Eligility: In order to be an eligible candidate, the student must be enrolled as a senior at, or a graduate of, a Lake County (IL) high school and  they must prove their need for financial aid.
Amount/Award:  One student, earns $5,000 per year of study, or $20,000, if eligible for reapplication. The award is paid to the college or university’s financial aid office, and credited to the recipients account.
Deadline: April 15th

Name: Sacramento Press Club Scholarships
Region/Eligility: Journalism students, mostly in Northern California, but sometimes elsewhere on the West coast as well.
Amount/Award:  One student receives a $6,000 award, another receives a $4,000 award, and three students receive an award for $2,500.
Deadline: March 31st
